Research Tools

Research tools are used for data analysis and enables researchers to make better decisions with data. 

  • Atlas.ti - Is a computer program used mostly, but not exclusively, in qualitative research or qualitative data analysis. Tutorials and videos.
  • IBM SPSS - Helps to address the entire analytical process, from planning to data collection to analysis, reporting and deployment.

  • STATISTICA - Provides the most comprehensive array of data analysis, data management, data visualization, and data mining procedures.   •  R - R is an open source software for data manipulation, calculation and graphical display. [R is installed on the Research and Honours Commons computers.]


Getting the software

Mafikeng Campus: 

Potchefstroom Campus:

  • Students: For Laptop installation of the software please use the Walk-In services at Building F20 or contact your IT-department at +27(0)18 299 2700. 
  • Staff: To download the programs use the IT App Portal.
  • Postgraduate students and researchers may make use of these software programs at the computers in the Research and Honours Commons.
