A seed today. A meal tomorrow.
This Mandela Month, the NWU Library and Information Service invites the entire NWU community to join hands in cultivating hope through our Vegetable Seed Donation Drive.
A single packet of vegetable seeds may seem small, but in the hands of a family or community, it can grow into nutritious meals, healthier lives, and a more food-secure future. By donating vegetable seeds, you are investing in sustainable food production, dignity, resilience, and the well-being of those who need it most.
What to donate
- Packets of vegetable seeds (any variety)
Drop-off Points
- All NWU Libraries across the Mahikeng, Potchefstroom, and Vanderbijlpark campuses.
Deadline: 31 July 2026
Every packet donated plants more than a garden, it plants hope, strengthens communities, and contributes to a future where no one goes hungry.
This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 2: Zero Hunger - Promoting food security and sustainable food production.
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being - Supporting healthier communities through access to nutritious food.
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities - Encouraging resilient and self-sustaining communities.
- SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production - Promoting sustainable food-growing practices.
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals - Demonstrating the power of collective action to create lasting impact.
Together, let us honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela by planting the seeds of hope, nourishing communities, and proving that even the smallest act of kindness can grow into lasting change.
