How to Access Library Services
Library Database Access - Registered NWU Students and Staff
NOTE!
- You must be a registered student/staff member of the North-West University to access library databases.
- Click here for a complete list of our user categories and services.
On-campus access
- Access is given automatically via IP authentication.
- Some e-journals are individual subscriptions that do not work via IP authentication and require a unique password, e.g. LexisNexis. Please contact your faculty librarian if you are not authenticated via CAS.
Off-campus access
- North-West University staff and students log in with their CAS username and password.
- Steps:
- Click on the database of your choice.
- Click on the NWU Students and Staff dropdown and the link in the dropdown:
- Enter your CAS username and password:
- Username:
- Your CAS username is your university number.
- Password:
- During the registration period at NWU a default password is created for each staff member and student. Your primary password is either your ID number or passport number followed by @Nwu, e.g., 12345667890123@Nwu
- For international students (including students from Namibia) this password consist of passport number followed by @Nwu, e.g., 123456789@Nwu

- if you do not have a CAS username and password, call the T&L Technologies Helpdesk at 018 285 5930 (Monday - Friday: 08:00 - 16:45), and ask them to help you set up your CAS username and password. You can also log a T&L Helpdesk request.

Library Database Access - Non-Affiliated Users, e.g. prospective M and PhD students
IMPORTANT!
THIS REGISTRATION IS NOT FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE REGISTERED AT THE NWU UNIVERSITY AND HAVE A UNIVERSITY NUMBER.
- External users, e.g. prospective M and PhD students not registered with the University, can arrange for access to our databases via our Circulation Services Department at an additional fee.
- Not all external user categories have access to databases, e.g., alumni. Click here for a complete list of our user categories and services.
- You will receive a username and password via email from the library once you have registered at the Library. Please complete this form if you did not receive your username and email upon registration.

Access to your Library Patron Record on WorldCat Discovery
- From your Patron Record on WorldCat Discovery, you can access the following services:
- checked out items - see your current loans and renew them if possible
- overdue items and charges - details of fines issued by the library
- requested items - items you requested on hold, intercampus requests and Interlibrary Loans.
- restrictions and messages. For full details of restrictions and messages, inquire at your nearest Circulation Services desk.
- borrowing history
- search activity
- saved searches
- saved items and saved lists
- profile information - to view your contact information
- North-West University staff and students log in with their CAS username and password.

- External users, use the username and password provided by Circulation Services.
- When using a public computer, please remember to sign out to keep your searches and personal details private when you have finished using your Library Record account.
Access to Library eReserve Material and EndNote - Registered NWU Students and Staff
- North-West University staff and students log in with their CAS username and password to access material placed on eReserves and to download EndNote.
