Research Spaces

Food & Beverage

• Only snacks and covered beverages are allowed within the Commons.
• NO messy foods such as pizza, pies or lunch boxes are allowed in the Commons.
• You may eat outside the library.
• Please wipe any spills on the workspace, and throw trash in the dustbin.

Workspace

• Spaces are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
• Don't leave your belongings overnight.
• No PC/workspace should be left unattended for more than 1 hour.
• No PC/workspace should be reserved for anyone.
• If the workspace is unattended for more than 1 hour, your belongings will be removed and kept at the Helpdesk.
• You MAY leave your belongings unattended at YOUR OWN RISK.

Research Commons

The research commons offers admission to master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral students as well as academic and research staff

• Access via your university card
• Spacious computer workstations
• Individual laptop stations with Wi-Fi access
• Print, copy and scan facilities
• A modern, technologically equipped conference room with an interactive whiteboard, sound and lighting facilities
• A core collection of research methodology handbooks as well as essential reference works
• A comfortable leisure area with DSTV (limited channels, no audio)
• Single-person study cubicles
• Seminar rooms for group discussions, one of which has Skype facilities
• A coffee machine (self-pay)

Bookings

• Lockers can be booked for one month
• Renewals can only be made if no other student is waiting to use the locker

Ask Us!!

• Experienced information staff will be available to assist researchers and refer them to subject librarians when necessary.  After hours the facility will be run by postgraduate student-assistants
• Ask the Help desk to borrow equipment, e.g. headphones, adapters, cables, extra screens etc.

Honours Commons

The honours commons offers admission to honours and fourth-year students only

• Access via your university card
• Spacious computer workstations
• Individual laptop stations with Wi-Fi access
• Print, copy and scan facilities
• Seminar rooms for group discussions
• A core collection of essential reference works and research methodology handbooks
• A comfortable leisure area with daily newspapers

Ask Us!!

• Experienced information staff will assist students and refer them to subject librarians when necessary.  After hours the facility will be run by postgraduate student assistants
