Dignity in every Drop
This Mandela Month, the Library and Information Service calls on the entire NWU community to come together in solidarity and compassion through our Mandela Month Drive, a heartfelt initiative to support our male students who may be silently struggling with access to basic hygiene products.
While there are many commendable efforts across our campuses in support of the girl child, including regular sanitary towel drives, the needs of our male students often go unnoticed and unspoken. Yet they, too, face vulnerability and indignity when they are unable to meet their hygiene needs. This initiative seeks to close that gap, restore confidence, and affirm that no student should feel unseen or unsupported.
What to donate:
- Male toiletries (soap, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.)
- new socks
Drop-off Points: All NWU Libraries
Deadline: 30 July 2025
Every item donated supports a student's academic journey with confidence, care, and dignity.
This campaign is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being - Promoting hygiene and self-care practices
- SDG 4: Quality Education - Supporting holistic student well-being to enable academic success
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities - Addressing silent struggles and underserved needs
- SDG 1: No Poverty - Providing essential items to students in need
Together, let us restore dignity, one drop at a time and affirm that caring for each other is the true spirit of ubuntu and the legacy of Nelson Mandela.
