After heavy rainfall in Potchefstroom, Building E7 flooded, affecting several areas of the Ferdinand Postma Library. Relevant stakeholders have been engaged and are addressing the matter.

As a precaution, the following spaces are temporarily closed until further notice:

• Information Commons (Ground Floor) 
• Portions of the 2nd floor
• Seminar rooms on the 2nd floor

In the interim, students may use other study areas within the library. Students who need access to Information Commons facilities may use the Education Library (Building C6C) or available computer laboratories across campus.

The wait is finally over!  The much-anticipated Music Library refurbishment is finally getting underway. The library has temporarily closed its doors, and the collections, staff and selected workstations are currently being relocated to the temporary library space in Rooms 119/120, Building K1. The temporary space will be accessible to users from Monday, 7 September 2026.

The proposed new look will include:

• A redesigned access/information desk
• A podcast studio
• A hybrid collaborative room
• Three listening booths
• Workstations
• Enhanced seating spaces
• A refreshed look and feel

During the refurbishment, library staff will remain available to support the users. You can also book in-person and online appointments with the librarian via https://nwu.libcal.com/appointments , and electronic resources remain accessible via https://library.nwu.ac.za/ .

We look forward to seeing this long-awaited transformation come to life and creating an enhanced Music Library experience for our users!
